Coming to America from the UK has been an amazing journey. What began as an adventure turned into a whole new life. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have been given and would not change it for anything.
I moved to America in 2000 when I was 25. It was only supposed to be for six months to help manage my family’s property management business. We owned the business for many years in the Orlando area, close to Disney. Being young and excited for adventure, I went, and I am so glad I did.
Although I had just bought my first home in England at the time, I packed up all my belongings and boarded a plane to Florida. I had visited America many times over the years but adjusting to living here was very different from a brief stay. Though we speak the same language, the culture, mannerisms, even figures of speech were all new. Those first six months quickly turned into a year, which turned into two years, and here I am today.
A few years after buying a house and starting my family, I realized that Florida had become home. I loved the “can do” mentality here and embraced the community. All the while I continued running the property management company until it was sold in 2013.
Our company had 80 single-family units that we managed year-round, and while it was a lot to juggle, I enjoyed creating memorable stays for our guests. A lot of our guests were overseas visitors on vacation. Many asked about buying a vacation home of their own during their stay. I gained my real estate license in 2004 and helped many of them purchase and manage homes remotely. I became an expert on the market, property management and real estate while continuing to evolve along with our company.
We made the decision to sell the company in 2013. I had two littles under two at the time we sold the company, and I took a step back to focus on my family. Later with four children under the age of ten, life got busy. There was an entire year I drove to four different schools daily to give them all their best opportunities to succeed. That helped me gain expert knowledge on all the local schools. I love being a mother, but I never imagined that I would have four children. It still surprises me today when I see them all together!
Though there was definitely a busy season before getting back into real estate full time in 2017, I am so grateful for all my children have taught me. Each child is amazing with their own unique strengths. They have overcome challenges of their own with my husband and me by their side.
Seeing them all thriving in their lives now and at different stages is endlessly inspiring to me. Through my children, I realized none of us can ever know someone’s whole story, not unless we ask. Every one of us has a million things we are juggling at any given time, and you will never know unless you listen.
Through it all, I became even more compassionate for the stories of others and how I can help them write their next best chapters through real estate.
